Ever wondered what a Glen Garioch single malt Scotch whisky would taste like, if it was matured completely in wine casks, but never had the chance? Well now you can, with the first ever fully-wine-cask-matured whisky from the distillery in Aberdeenshire. This limited edition whisky was distilled in 1998 and filled into French Bordeaux wine casks, where it matured for 15 years, until it was bottled in 2014.
Nose: Opens with juicy red fruits. Both milk and dark chocolate chunks. Sweet oak. Raisins and prunes.
Palate: A malty core with gingerbread and cinnamon. More jammy fruits and milk chocolate. Orange zest pops up every once in a while.
Finish: A sweet, long finish of malty, plummy goodness.
Overall: An elegant, intriguing expression from Glen Garioch.
